Sunday (Monday) Stash…

So it’s a little late for this post but hey ho. Got an amazing addition to show you this week!

Technically it’s not “stash” but something to use it up! Isn’t she gorgeous?

Brother Innovis 350 SE (2)A Brother Innovis 350 SE and look a computerised screen..

Brother Innovis 350 SE (1)I’m not ashamed to admit it took me bout half an hour to work out how to wind the bobbin, load bobbin and top thread (with aid of manual). One day I might actually preset a setting to remember where the needle goes for that pesky quarter inch.

She has loads of features including a knee lift (untried yet) but as I have a backlog of sewing to catch up on due to previous machine tantrums… it might be my week off next month til I get a proper play at all it can do.

DZ Oh Betty FabricNot to worry I did stash some amazing fabrics too (Darlene Zimmerman Oh Betty in the top and in the bottom a range of Denyse Schmidt, Flurry and a host of other designers) but now I neeeeeeeeeed to behave and use up some of what I have! One sneaky order this week and that’s it… as I want to get a craft lamp and a table so I can use my cutting mat upstairs near the machine…

Now to go enjoy some more of this sunshine 🙂 Hope everyone has a lovely week! Linking up with Molli Sparkles.

Finding my feet… again

It’s been annoying busy around these parts lately! Especially with car trouble which meant no car for about a week… and some secret sewing that can’t be shown yet 🙂

Anyway in general I’m happy with actually getting some sewing done. First up is my first sewtogether bag this year. I did three just before Christmas and had forgotten a couple of steps. This one is a birthday present for a friend and also a belated thank you present for putting me up a couple of nights last summer.

Turtle Best Day Ever Sewtogether Bag (2)  Turtle Best Day Ever Sewtogether Bag (3)Turtle Best Day Ever Sewtogether Bag (1)I hope she likes it! Was awfully tempted to keep it for myself! I included some other extras in it too 🙂

Stupidly I forgot to link up with the Finish A Long Q1 but I be back soon with my Q2 list and some other bits to show… plus I am SO looking forward to something that be arriving next week !

Eek it’s March..

… I am still here and thought it’s about time I provided you with an update!

It’s been rather busy between work, family stuff and everyone laden with viruses but I have slowly been sewing… even though sometimes I wanted to throw the machine out of the window for misbehaving.Centre Triangles Hexagon

This is one of my favourite things at the moment! Trianges and hexies 🙂 It’s my centre for a Round Robin bee but I definitely see a proper quilt coming like it soon!Churndash Block Stacked Rainbow Block

Some bee blocks (Churn Dash and Stacked Rainbows) for the Fat Stash Uk beeHexiefriends EPP flowers

And to complete my hexie craze I’ve joined in with the #hexiefriends phenomena on Instagram where you swap a flower with each other and the centre has your name and location. How cool will that be??

I’ve a few more things to show.. so later this week when I feel a bit more on top of things.

First Finish of 2015

Technically… even though I’ve sewn this is the first actual finish and it’s something knocked off my FAL Q1 list too!

It’s my mini for the current round of the Schnitzel and Boo Mini Swap. I changed my mind so many times as I was a little out of my comfort zone with my partner Craftyhannah.

In the end I settle of a New York Beauty Circle of Flying Geese pattern… lot of paper piecing… mutterings and curves later it was pieced. Then it was the quilting… I dithered for about a week and half and in the end put on my fmq foot and big girl pants…. voila an organic waves pattern. It’s far from perfect but I love it 🙂 And…. the back is amazingly fine!

Mini Swap Betteroffthread New York Beauty of Flying Geese (2)

There were a few I had my eye on in the IG Pool and what came was one of those! A gorgeous hexie out of B&C fabrics and some lovely goodies too including a portable EPP kit by the lovely Gretchen. Guess what will be coming to work with me tomorrow 🙂

Mini Swap Hexie Bonnie and Camille

My next swap is due in April for the UKmini hosted by BossyOz and I must say I’m intimidated again by my partner…. dithering over what to do……….

Then May it’s the Outlander swap I’m co-hosting with Kylie (still open details here). I’m resisting other swaps that are popping up as I have some secret sewing to finish…

Sometimes I wonder how does everyone manage to fit it all in?

Quiet Play Zoo Animals BOM

Golly it’s been awhile since I’ve been here… the house has been/still is kinda flu ridden, a work trip to London has left me exhausted and sloooooooow in catching up on sewing!

But………… have you seen Quiet Play’s new BOM?

It’s running for nine months with a free pattern released each pattern (if you miss the month you can buy it). January’s pattern is the flamingo and it did not take me long to stitch it up at all (by the 3rd!)……….

2015-01-27 16.47.58The eye was a little tricky but so so worth it! Can’t wait for the next one to be available 🙂

Anyone else tempted to join in?

P.S- if you’re a fan of Outlander (either the books or the series) see here for a general crafty swap that’s happening… More on that soon…

2015 Finish Along Q1 Goals

It’s that time of year again to declare some “finish” aims. Finish Along 2015 has jumped from Katy over to Adrianne. I think in the last quarter I put too much on myself so going to try and be a bit more realistic (yeah right?!) Especially since going back to work this work meant spending the past couple of days in a zombified stupor so………

NY Beauty Geese1. This needs to be finished by the 16th.. it’s for my partner in the Schnitzel and Boo mini swap. Last minute (aka sunday) I changed my mind on my original idea and going for this. I’m not overly keen on the rainbow palette so going for brights… the geese and spiky bits are all cut out..

Country Girls Tasha Noel Great Granny2. Granny Square quilt with Country Girls fabric. It’s all cut out waiting to be sewn. This was meant to be my sewing time before work this week if only I got up instead of dozing until well after my alarm.

3-5. As seen here the Harper Quilt, Oliver’s playmat and Farryn’s Quilt needs to be finished. The Harper quilt is all pieced and made the blocks (Georgina) for the back.. Farryn’s quilt pieced but Oliver’s hum not much progress……….. Oops and the children are now five months, nine months and eighteen months. Although to be fair I’ve set a habit of giving quilts on the second birthday 😉

Seal6. My Seal quilt… the photo above something like that.. This is of a wild seal on the beach down Godrevy a couple of weeks ago. The tide was in so most of the seals were near the cliff. this particular male had clamored over a lot of rocks!

The only thing I have to decide is pixels or applique… then start 🙂

I also have some toys (Phil the monkey, Owl and Dragon) to finish, a couple of sewtogether bags and a Sidekick Tote for me with Linen and woodland fabrics. Plus the Ukminiswap and also in my head is a whimsical woodland animal quilt with triangles but next time eh?

So… are you planning any finishes this quarter? Linking up with On the Windy Side.

Angles and the IGMini Swap

Isn’t it interesting how different our brains work? How something one way your brain can’t cope with very well turn it around and it’s something you instantly love! This happened to me on the IGMini Swap.

A month ago I received a customs demand for over £20 for something from the USA. This did not happen at a good time being almost Christmas etc but it turned out it was my IGMini! I waited til payday before paying the ransom and then it arrived…

IG Mini Swap 30s repro mini sampler (2)

IG Mini Swap 30s repro mini sampler (3)Look at all those goodies and 30s fabrics! Normally I’m not a sampler person but I just loved the look of this and that’s the way it will be going on my wall. Once I fiddle with the hanging tab- the creator the lovely SewAggie originally intended it to be hung with those lone squares at the top but to my brain it is more appealing to have the pattern dance from left to right and I just love the fact there are hexies in there!

IG Mini Swap 30s repro mini sampler (1)And… just look at that quilting! Superb!

IG Mini Swap EPP Diamonds (2)My partner was barely on Instagram and didn’t give much away in clues mostly that she liked blue. She had already done a few patterns I had in mind so in the end I decided on EPP some diamonds in a rotating star pattern. I spent ages dithering over the binding and as I was too scared to try an invisible binding with all those edges I opted for a normal one. Which now to me it detracts from the design a little too much! It is slightly handquilted in the centre and the rest machine quilted.

I FMQ the hell out of that basket there too 🙂 Plus it’s one more thing ticked off my FAL Q4 list!

I now need to spend some time fiddling with minis on the wall- how do you do yours? I’ve tried some tape but it keeps falling down and wary of pushpins as they will leave holes in the fabric.

Little Quilts Swap

So.. a few months ago Sarah Fielke organised a mini quilt swap from the book she cowrote with Amy Lobsiger. I couldn’t resist and signed up!

My partner liked colour and so after a bit of thought I decided on the Fans of May pattern from the book and eventually ended up with this…..

Little Quilts Fans of May FMQ (1)It is one of my favourite quilts from last year and at times it was tough- who knew that ric rac melts and I dislike how much of a mess woolen fabric leaves! I was also naughty and deviated from the pattern slightly by adding buttons to the fans but I thought it looked better and helped to hide the odd foundation piecing mistake!

Little Quilts Fans of May FMQ (2) Little Quilts Fans of May FMQ (3)After doing Sarah’s class at the West Country Quilt Show I practiced my FMQ on the border and the basket gift.Long way to go yet fmq wise but at least it’s a step in the right direction!

It’s also one thing ticked off my FAL Q4 list too!

Little QuiltsThis is what I received from my partner isn’t it lovely? I’ve been oohing and aahing over the pattern in that book and the little pouch and extras are cute!

Unfortunately I don’t think my partner had much experience with foundation piecing before as there are a few mishaps- the points are quite far away meeting up and there’s an exposed seam.I’ve done a fair bit of foundation piecing this week so will share those projects and tips/comments on the technique soon.

But I do love the fabric and am grateful she put all the effort into making this after all that’s what counts and trying new things! But… what to do with it? What do others do with mini quilts if they aren’t on the wall?

Liberty of London Goodies

There’s been a lot of good swaps going around lately on Instagram that I couldn’t resist and the Liberty of London Swap was one of them. Plus it made me use up some of my carefully hoarding/accumulating liberty stash.

P1110404 P1110405

A few weeks ago I received these aren’t they gorgeous? Along with some 1930s repro fabrics and some gorgeous perle cotton thread which I’m already itching to get into.

I am a little in awe of the person I made for so I hope she likes my goodies this is what I made… a sewing machine cover and a little spool mini of my own design.

P1110400P1110398 P1110401

I’m sorry partner for being a week or so behind in posting it to you.. had some ties issue on the cover and then spot cleaning the binding.

Plus it’s another finish ticked off my FAL Q4 list– go me!

A Day Out…

Yesterday was fun but exhausting! I think I left just before 545am and did not get back home until gone 11pm. The day seemed to go by so fast and still does not seem like 400 odd miles of driving!

Anyhow… look at this cute pouch Helen made and gave me yesterday- isn’t it adorable?

P1110391We managed to get to the Quilt Show in Bristol before it opened and had a walk around of the stalls before our classes. Helen did the Kantha class which looking at her work am jealous I didn’t but then that would have meant an extra day for me!

P1110385My first class was free motion quilting with the lovely Sarah of Edward and the Bear. I’ve done a tiny bit at home before but was never happy with my results it was nice to have the set time to play and see different techniques. I can definitely see these flowers and loops in a quilt sometime close in the future!

P1110389After seeing Alicia Merrett’s exhibition at the Festival of Quilts I jumped at the chance to take the map quilt class. It was a little bit different for me.. freehand cutting! So I am debating redoing my houses/settlements into something else… but once I’ve tackled a few things off my to do list… it be back to this. That purple strip in the middle is a road… not the real road yet.

P1110382I was pretty restrained with my purchases at the show literally just this… The panel piece is lots of smaller panels with woodland animals in a learn to count theme that I couldn’t resist.

P1110376And… I found my quilt! Can you tell I’m too short to take a proper photo?! There were some lovely quilts on show some have given me ideas…

Next up we headed back down to Exeter for the launch party of Fiona Pullen’s debut book Craft a Creative Business. After being stuck in traffic and downpours of rain we made it in time and found the Exeter Sewing Shop. It was a great evening loads turned out for the party and it was well deserved 🙂

P1110383I was very lucky in receiving a goody bag my favourite the polka dot embroidery scissors and Priory Square sample bits. Very good here too only got Fi’s book and a 3FQ bundle of Downton Abbey fabrics.

Phew… I might just go back to sleep now! Did anyone else make it?

I’m heading up to Cowslip tomorrow and back to work on Monday. But already looking forward to my next trip up to Exeter at the end of the month for the next South West Stitchers event. I best make a move on and sort out the secret santa gift.
