Something new… Knitting a Sky Blanket

In my Goals post I mentioned tentatively that I wanted to do more with knitting and crochet… well I’ve made a start already! Jillyrosie on Instagram this week posted that she was starting a sky blanket and after looking into it.. I thought why not. It’s a good way to get me knitting regularly and is just a square.

Laura from Bugs and Fishes dreamt up the original concept and to see her post on how to make one go here. But basically all it is, is knit a square each day matching it to the colour of the sky. Easy right?

Hmm due to some unexpected car expenses (hello new battery and tyres) I needed to dig into my stash and not buy anything new until next payday. Sadly I don’t have the size 6 needles so using size 8 instead! Trying to stick with good quality acrylic yarn but I have deviated on colour slightly… since it be boring to have two squares exactly the same at times I’m allowing myself the reflection of the sky in the water… as being in Cornwall we do have beautiful sky and water scenery!

Here I am up to day 5 already…. debating whether to redo day 5 but I wanted something slightly different being that it’s the husband’s birthday and we went for a wander around Falmouth…

imag0393_1.jpgToday has been another dark and dreary day but I think leave that for the morning as I managed to catch up on 3.5 squares today 🙂 I think I’m improving I haven’t unravelled a squared since the second one and I think they are getting less wonky.. Now if only I can fix whatever weird thing I’m doing when casting on…

imag0396_1.jpgI picked up this book in the Works Sale last week and can’t wait to get started on some, a couple projects have caught my eye already. I really really want to do this hat  in either of these chunky yarns but the only problem is I have all the circular needles up to size 10 but it wants size 11, 13…..sighs why can I never have anything I need when starting a new project!

imag0395_1.jpgI def recommend this book if you are into Fairytales inspired knits, after conquering the hat it’ll be Belle’s bookish gloves… look aren’t they pretty? Maybe not in yellow though… don’t think that’s me somehow!

imag0397_1.jpgI’m back at work on Monday after two weeks off and dreading it… so hopefully enjoy this weekend and get lots more done! Have a good one folks.

Sunday Stash…. 27th April

Uh oh this week has flown by! Work chaos has left me too tired to do much in the evenings so my to do list went out the window. But it hasn’t stopped me adding stash….

P1100649

Part of a vintage duvet and pillow case at the back, some fat quarters including cats for the 30s repro collection and the Japanese Monthly Bundle Club. Although…. I’m starting to dislike the calendar FQ- if anyone wants to make an offer for it feel free 🙂

P1100650

Love Patchwork, Love Sewing, Lori Holt’s Great Granny Squared Book and an embroidery napkin kit from my friend as embroidery I need to learn but not like I need another craft to be addicted to right?!

Yay.. some finds from the car boot on Friday lunchtime. But… that blue duvet at the back right keeps screaming at me to be a dress instead of adding to the things to make for little boys. The front left is actually a maternity dress (and not yet before you ask besides it’s a size small 😉 ) love the fabric.

Today’s spoils… some knitting stuff and some fabric from Trago to be my first test summer dress. Really drawn to the By Hand London Flora Dress at the moment although with this I’m going to have to line the whole thing instead of the bodice. Thinking a vintage sheet I picked up last week could do… then once that’s done I can realise my dream of having a polka dot dress (getting fabric tomorrow thank you hobbycraft sale).

Oh not made any clothes yet.. so this will be interesting as I just know I’m going to have to do full bust adjustments and the like. Right I best crack on and finish the Collette Ginger Skirt first!

P1100651One of my dilemmas of the day (let’s be honest since last saturday!) … so annoyed I didn’t spot the brown mark before I sewn it into rows… do I leave and hope for the best or sub it? That is the question.

Best crack on I’ve got a birthday present to finish (um the last piece to start) ready to gift for tomorrow.

Eek.. nothing like last minute girl yet again. Linking up with Molli Sparkles.

On my desk tonight..

Can definitely feel the onset of longer dreary days this week. Its dark, misty and wet! Not to mention since sunday I’ve been fighting off a nasty cold which has left me wooly headed and drained!

Enough about that though… the quilt along posts will start appearing over the weekend whilst I try get back to normal! In the meantime keeping my sanity with a couple of little projects a crochet fox purse and some english paper piecing patchwork. Can you see whats under the ball of wool? It’s going to look so pretty!

So… the first person who guesses correctly what that peek of fabric pieces is going to be turned into  not only you feel superior at being first! But I’ll send a bunch of scraps and a hexie pack for you to play. Gotta have some fun right?

Inspiring or taking up space?

Books that is. How many do you currently have on your shelf and how many do you actually use?

Tidying up the flat this week I attempted to put all my craft related books in one place.

Well.. almost! There are some good books in there which I’ve been recommended or gone oooh over. Some that was given to me and some that were complete impulse buys… knitted cats and kittens for example. I can only knit a basic ruffle scarf so why did I feel the need to have it?!

The patchwork ones are probably what I’ve used the most. Absolutely love the fresh take on designs from Katy Jones. This block for example I made as part of a birthday present a couple weeks ago. Don’t you just love it?

Apologies for the rubbish photo my camera was hiding at the time. I think my aim over the summer is to use these books more and do some more projects for me! Oh and finish my nephew’s quilted playmat (start even).

There’s a couple of projects on the go already from these books and some ones I randomly made my own design up. If you follow me on instagram you might even see sneaky peeks!

It’s time to announce….

… the next swap!

The idea is to make an A5/A6 sized diary/journal or notebook. Rather the cover of it and include the diary etc inside.

P1090417

There are all sorts of mediums for this- this is my diary to help keep my various sewing projects organised and in some sort of order (would help if I used it properly!) This one has a cross-stiched cover and is from the talented Dawn. (See her shop here.)

The possibilities are endless you can scrapbook, sew, knit and more!

But to get you started..

Notebook Folder tutorial from Riley Blake Designs and a Journal Cover tutorial from Bloom and Blossom.

Medium: As long as you make it yourself it can be in any medium either sewn with fabrics, patchwork, knitted, crocheted, crossstitched, felted, scrapbooked….
