Stitching Santa

So.. this year I managed to remember to sign up to Sewchet’s Stitching Santa swap. I took part in the sewing one a couple years ago and loved it! Now that I was hooking up my yarn I was greedy and took part in both sewing and yarn. When they arrived they were slotted under the tree and patiently waiting until the big day.

Apologising in advance for the photos mixture of cluttered chaos and weather not behaving!

I did feel a bit guilty as both my secret santas stalked me via my blog and like a lot of people due to time most of my daily social media is over on Instagram. That said both gifts were amazing and perfect.

Yarn Santa.

The lovely JoΒ  of Through the Keyhole was my secret santa. The chocolate has long gone! (Apparently I inhale it…) but I had a lovely Shawl which I can’t do justice or model appropriately to pop on over to Jo’s blog for a much prettier look! Really love the colour and style of this and can’t wait to take it on it’s first outing when back at work later in the week. Am really envious of your skill Jo!

Some really pretty yarn- the blue is sock yarn and the pinky colourway is 4 ply which I’m guessing for socks? It is on my list to try and get some socks done and so these will go into my yarn mountain. I’ve only cracked crochet a few months ago after years on/off trying so determined to get that and my knitting skills up to scratch this year. Have in my list the winwick sock pattern but any others to recommend please shout! I genuinely would appreciate it!

Also included in my parcel was a couple of little kits and a mountain of tea (avid tea lover) so really looking forward to try these! Now every one by now knows I live to read so was so happy to find this in my parcel too! Not had a chance yet but promise soon with some healthy hot cocoa to sit down and nosy my way through this.

Sewing Santa:

My secret santa was another blog I hadn’t had the pleasure of coming across before- Lynn of thetialys. Lots of pretties here! Somehow Lynn has worked out that I love Liberty so had some gorgeous pieces and then my love of sea creatures (except the evil dolphins) isn’t the whale the cutest? Pretty coasters, needlebook case, drawstring bag and lots of extras. I think the clasp frame I may do something yarn related with it (we’ll see).

Thank you so much Jo and Lynn for taking the time to stalk my interests and craft the perfect gifts for me. Am looking forward to what you get up to this year now I’ve discovered your blogs!

I’ve actually sewn something….

Yeah I’m still in shock! Me sewing… what is the world coming to! It’s definitely been a struggle past few months and not sure why.. too many projects or should I say too many commitment sewing and not enough for me? Whatever… let’s hope it’s getting over now πŸ™‚

2016-02-03-21.04.06.jpg.jpeg

So what have I been doing….. I’ve had this book Fifty Fat Quarter Makes for Christmas and been dying to try the crochet hook case for ages. Especially since I keep misplacing my hooks.. just when I want to pick up a yarn project.Β  This is for Tara as part of my #bigdamnheroesswap package. I’m not quite happy with the front it doesn’t mesh as well as I wanted it too but I messed up when cutting a couple of weeks ago. I’m blaming the sugar withdrawalness thing going through at the time… headaches, nausea and tiredness and not me okay!

2016-02-03-21.02.24.jpg.jpegReally want to do one for me soon! Also as part of the swap I did a cross stitch and some embroidery- Tara loves Jayne so can you see the theme….

2016-02-03-21.00.51.jpg.jpeg 2016-02-03-21.01.12.jpg.jpeg 2016-02-03-21.05.25.jpg.jpegI’ve had my parcel this week from the lovely Jenny of Nerdymcstitcherson isn’t it lovely!

2016-02-02-20.06.09.jpg.jpegHoping be back on track soon… I’ve got a few messages to reply to from last week so bear with me πŸ™‚

Also this is one of my finishes from the FAL 2016 list.

Goals Q2 Finish-A-Long

Well Q1 was dismal and even forgot to link up my one measly finish… here’s hoping to a better Q2! Especially since my new toy should be arriving end of next week πŸ™‚

Some are these are carried on from the last quarter and this list is by no means definitive of what I have to do but I need a big kick to keep on track…

1. My mini for the Ukminiswap- due in a couple of weeks… I’ve been feeling a little intimidated by my partner so it’s taking me ages to decide what to do! Mixing up some daysail with curves….

Pentagon EPP Boy Ball2. A Pentagon ball made via english paper piecing for my nephew Louis.

P11109003-7. I STILL have quilts for the little ones to do. The above is the backing for the youngest. The other quilts can be seen here and I have Hazel the Hedgehog all cut out too as a bonus one. Also adding in a pram quilt made out of triangles and boyish fabrics which must be finished soon… yes really!

Milk, Flower and Sugar Hexagons EPP

8. An on the go project for a hexie baby quilt- recipient indetermined. But given that I have a lot of deadlines coming up for both the day job and sewing this is my way to relax. And it’s such pretty fabric! I just can’t decide on the next border for the hexie flowers…Oh Deer Circles

9. These started out as tester blocks for when I was doing a curved project last month (more on that soon). I couldn’t stop however… just need to do some more blocksP1110898

10. Can you spot a theme already? With gritted teeth this is going to be a butterfly block (those who know me don’t fall off in shock as I really do not like these things…) but once you get an idea go with it right?? Destined to be a little one’s quilt.P1110899Β  11-12. Gifts in the making.. all cut and interfaced just needs sewing up complete with zips. I’m betting a couple of people can guess who these are for…Β  especially since one has been hanging around since last year….

12. This is happening… my seal quilt in applique. I want to enter this in FOQ but it be great if it could be done at least a month in advance of the deadline…

Also on the list are………. minis for the Fairytaleswap, Sherlock Swap but I have no idea at present so won’t count those! Besides think I have enough to be getting on with right??

What is everyone else working on? Linking up with Adrianne.

First Finish of 2015

Technically… even though I’ve sewn this is the first actual finish and it’s something knocked off my FAL Q1 list too!

It’s my mini for the current round of the Schnitzel and Boo Mini Swap. I changed my mind so many times as I was a little out of my comfort zone with my partner Craftyhannah.

In the end I settle of a New York Beauty Circle of Flying Geese pattern… lot of paper piecing… mutterings and curves later it was pieced. Then it was the quilting… I dithered for about a week and half and in the end put on my fmq foot and big girl pants…. voila an organic waves pattern. It’s far from perfect but I love it πŸ™‚ And…. the back is amazingly fine!

Mini Swap Betteroffthread New York Beauty of Flying Geese (2)

There were a few I had my eye on in the IG Pool and what came was one of those! A gorgeous hexie out of B&C fabrics and some lovely goodies too including a portable EPP kit by the lovely Gretchen. Guess what will be coming to work with me tomorrow πŸ™‚

Mini Swap Hexie Bonnie and Camille

My next swap is due in April for the UKmini hosted by BossyOz and I must say I’m intimidated again by my partner…. dithering over what to do……….

Then May it’s the Outlander swap I’m co-hosting with Kylie (still open details here). I’m resisting other swaps that are popping up as I have some secret sewing to finish…

Sometimes I wonder how does everyone manage to fit it all in?

Quiet Play Zoo Animals BOM

Golly it’s been awhile since I’ve been here… the house has been/still is kinda flu ridden, a work trip to London has left me exhausted and sloooooooow in catching up on sewing!

But………… have you seen Quiet Play’s new BOM?

It’s running for nine months with a free pattern released each pattern (if you miss the month you can buy it). January’s pattern is the flamingo and it did not take me long to stitch it up at all (by the 3rd!)……….

2015-01-27 16.47.58The eye was a little tricky but so so worth it! Can’t wait for the next one to be available πŸ™‚

Anyone else tempted to join in?

Hannah.x

P.S- if you’re a fan of Outlander (either the books or the series) see here for a general crafty swap that’s happening… More on that soon…

Angles and the IGMini Swap

Isn’t it interesting how different our brains work? How something one way your brain can’t cope with very well turn it around and it’s something you instantly love! This happened to me on the IGMini Swap.

A month ago I received a customs demand for over Β£20 for something from the USA. This did not happen at a good time being almost Christmas etc but it turned out it was my IGMini! I waited til payday before paying the ransom and then it arrived…

IG Mini Swap 30s repro mini sampler (2)

IG Mini Swap 30s repro mini sampler (3)Look at all those goodies and 30s fabrics! Normally I’m not a sampler person but I just loved the look of this and that’s the way it will be going on my wall. Once I fiddle with the hanging tab- the creator the lovely SewAggie originally intended it to be hung with those lone squares at the top but to my brain it is more appealing to have the pattern dance from left to right and I just love the fact there are hexies in there!

IG Mini Swap 30s repro mini sampler (1)And… just look at that quilting! Superb!

IG Mini Swap EPP Diamonds (2)My partner was barely on Instagram and didn’t give much away in clues mostly that she liked blue. She had already done a few patterns I had in mind so in the end I decided on EPP some diamonds in a rotating star pattern. I spent ages dithering over the binding and as I was too scared to try an invisible binding with all those edges I opted for a normal one. Which now to me it detracts from the design a little too much! It is slightly handquilted in the centre and the rest machine quilted.

I FMQ the hell out of that basket there too πŸ™‚ Plus it’s one more thing ticked off my FAL Q4 list!

I now need to spend some time fiddling with minis on the wall- how do you do yours? I’ve tried some tape but it keeps falling down and wary of pushpins as they will leave holes in the fabric.

Little Quilts Swap

So.. a few months ago Sarah Fielke organised a mini quilt swap from the book she cowrote with Amy Lobsiger. I couldn’t resist and signed up!

My partner liked colour and so after a bit of thought I decided on the Fans of May pattern from the book and eventually ended up with this…..

Little Quilts Fans of May FMQ (1)It is one of my favourite quilts from last year and at times it was tough- who knew that ric rac melts and I dislike how much of a mess woolen fabric leaves! I was also naughty and deviated from the pattern slightly by adding buttons to the fans but I thought it looked better and helped to hide the odd foundation piecing mistake!

Little Quilts Fans of May FMQ (2) Little Quilts Fans of May FMQ (3)After doing Sarah’s class at the West Country Quilt Show I practiced my FMQ on the border and the basket gift.Long way to go yet fmq wise but at least it’s a step in the right direction!

It’s also one thing ticked off my FAL Q4 list too!

Little QuiltsThis is what I received from my partner isn’t it lovely? I’ve been oohing and aahing over the pattern in that book and the little pouch and extras are cute!

Unfortunately I don’t think my partner had much experience with foundation piecing before as there are a few mishaps- the points are quite far away meeting up and there’s an exposed seam.I’ve done a fair bit of foundation piecing this week so will share those projects and tips/comments on the technique soon.

But I do love the fabric and am grateful she put all the effort into making this after all that’s what counts and trying new things! But… what to do with it? What do others do with mini quilts if they aren’t on the wall?

Liberty of London Goodies

There’s been a lot of good swaps going around lately on Instagram that I couldn’t resist and the Liberty of London Swap was one of them. Plus it made me use up some of my carefully hoarding/accumulating liberty stash.

P1110404 P1110405

A few weeks ago I received these aren’t they gorgeous? Along with some 1930s repro fabrics and some gorgeous perle cotton thread which I’m already itching to get into.

I am a little in awe of the person I made for so I hope she likes my goodies this is what I made… a sewing machine cover and a little spool mini of my own design.

P1110400P1110398 P1110401

I’m sorry partner for being a week or so behind in posting it to you.. had some ties issue on the cover and then spot cleaning the binding.

Plus it’s another finish ticked off my FAL Q4 list– go me!

Q4- The Finish A Long

Eek.. it’s that time again to come up withΒ  a Finish Along list and it’s the last one of 2014! Where has the time gone?? This week especially has been full of ups and downs as I’m still suffering from a silly virus and headaches which when combined with the day job of computers has completely knocked me out.

But I’ve managed to finish some embroidery last night and as I had nothing prepped to sew to the end of Strictly I made my list… and kinda wished I hadn’t! It’s scary even for me and most of it is stuff I have to do. I might have actually taken on too much but we will see. I am so looking forward to my two weeks off in November where I can knock off a few of these “C” makes.

P1110119

1. Woodland Critters Quilt- embroidery, EPP and handquilted! I’m new to embroidery really but it’s becoming a bit of an additction and I like to think I’m improving. The three there took me allllllll week and I’m so tempted to redo the owl and hedgehog but must resist. This has got to be finished by the end of the month…. as it’s being entered into the West Country Quilt Show.

2-4. The “Harper” Quilt, Oliver’s Playmat and Farry’s Quilt as seen here. Yup not much further on those…

P1110121 P1110120

5. IG Mini Quilt Swap- I’m planning to use the teals/blues in top photo along with triangles and hexagons.

6. Little Quilts Swap- The Month of May Mini in top photo with squares and scalloped edges

7. Liberty of London Swap- some grey linen with rainbow liberty for a sewing machine cover and a teeny mini

8. From the Sew Cute to Cuddle book- planning a dragon (for nephew 1), a monkey for Nephew 2 and an owl for my niece.

P1110123

9. Finish my “C” inspired mini wallhanging with the Lilipopo girl embroidery. The girl is done I just have some plans to add a tree and border/quilt it.

10. Stocking for Nephew 2- with his name embroidered on top in linen.

11. Hexie Trees Christmas Table Runner thing.

P1110122

12. I still have these to do- some Sew Together bags as thank you gifts..

I also have this 30s repro mini to finish hand quilting. As well as sort out my “For the Love of Jane” Swap, “Handmade Ornaments” Swap a special Cat Quilt for a friend’s birthday, a bag or two… The list continues but all these will be “bonus” projects as I think I do have more than enough to be getting on with!

Let’s hope I feel ok this week… although I do have a work trip out of County for Pensions Reform 2015 Seminar…. the joys of the day job.

Phew I’ll see you sometime right?! Linking up with Katy over at The Littlest Thistle.

Finish Along 2014- Quarter One

Finish Along 2014

Busy week! But sneaking in quickly to show you my goals for the FAL 2014 Q1. Yup I do have more things that need finishing that I haven’t already mentioned or committed elsewhere.. oh dear.

P1100434

First up these random piles of squares and HSTs. I do have a plan! Pink/Red/Purple heart with a LV background scrappy style. Done a mini quilt in this so intending to do a cushion, another mini quilt and a hoop project.

P1100437

Really need to get this finished and gifted. EPP diamonds ready to be appliqued and turned into a bag!

P1100438

One of my random block urges last year- this will turn into a concealed zip tote perfect for me cart my sewing stuff to and fro from work πŸ˜‰

P1100439

EPP Spring Carnival- some of my Bee Europa kindly helped out with the block and thanks to Kerry of Pennydog for helping to fill out my Heaven and Helsinki stash. This will be a wallhanging for me… eventually.

P1100441

The pink fabric and Colette Ginger Skirt pattern… well I’ve had a while even the invisible zip. Going to make a skirt and a top for me with these.

P1100442

Another thing for me.. my octagon flower humongous block with some FW blocks that my fellow Bee Europa kindly with.

P1100445Last but not least.. one of my obsessions! Had intended to get this done over Christmas break.. but time disappeared.

Seriously… think I love starting things to much so hopefully all of this will give me extra motivation to finish!

What are you working on?
