Le Challenge – Round

It’s been awhile since I participated in Le Challenge and I kept meaning to try and finish something for each month :O Never happened though but this month’s theme is round and I have a few finishes this month that fits that!

2016-02-14-08.31.58.jpg.jpegI stitched this little guy up last night- isn’t he soooooooooo cute? Those who have been around awhile know I absolutely love anything woodland related 😀 And the words… well that’s me or was especially on Friday afternoon at work! Struggling with a very bad cold/head thing and expected to pull rabbits out of the hat and such like…..

The pattern is by the lovely Jenny of NerdyMcSticherson who has a lovely Etsy shop full of patterns.

Now obviously it’s in a round hoop… for reference of size the hoop is 4″. I’m really wanting to make a bigger one with a floral border as pastelly flowers go with everything right??

Linking up to this month’s Le Challenge– feel free to go check out everyone’s interpretation of the theme.

Cross Stitching!

So… awhile back you might have noticed I started dabbling in another craft… cross stitching!

Once I’ve got the basics it’s snowballed and here are some of what I’ve been working on…………

letsbeawkard doughnutworry P1130342-001One thing I’m really proud of is the Frosted Pumpkin Tea Time pattern! It’s still here waiting to be posted off as a present… oh dear!

P1130343-001Isn’t it amazing? Although next time I won’t choose as white an aida!

harrypottersamplerI’m also doing some stich-a-longs…. this one is the #cloudsfactoryharrypotter hosted by NerdyMcStitcherson over on IG. I’m also planning to do the 2015 and 2016 Frosted Pumpkin ones too 🙂 Just waiting on the pattern and kit for Let’s Go On An Adventure.

Tonight it’s Gotham so guess best crack on and do some more work! Got a deadline of just under a week to finish another cross stitch…. seems I do like a bit of pressure!

Goals- next 3 months (aka the Finishalong post)

So.. it’s safe to say that it’s a bit of an understatement I was appalling bad at finishing things last year or even sticking to my list!

2016 FAL

Reflections and Moving Forward….

So… to all of you still here and reading my little blog- Happy New Year!

2015 has been a bit of a rollercoaster and I’ve not been as creative as I would like but instead of resolutions I’ve chosen a word to keep in mind for 2016.

wordI think this can be applied to almost any aspect of my life… I have a lot of clutter both physically and emotionally and it’s time for a good ole clear out 🙂

Like making better use of my time and actually using my planner properly… I’m a bit of a stationary geek and tend collect notebooks….

Geek

Or not starting new projects until some WIPs are done. Yes we’ve all been/are there. I have so many ideas of stuff I want to do but got to actually finish things and use what’s in my stash.

I’ve finally updated my 2015 Book list a massive 58 books last year! Going to make sure this year’s is regularly updated… and if any of you are on Goodreads stop by and wave to me here 🙂

I’ve got lots of new plans too including turning this blog into something more regularly updated as a “Creative Lifestyle Blog” and adding something new to my shop! Some sneaky peeks of what’s to come…

There’s still a few bits left in my Etsy shop if you want a bargain!

Eeek… surely not a plug…

Yup! Sorry folks but figure mention it here too! Finally taking the decision to close down and clear out my jewellery for sale side as I’ve not been doing much of that lately!

With the code FLASH25 everything is 25% off and don’t worry my little shop is not disappearing… but it may come back with a new look pretty soon 🙂

And…. a few bits not listed on Etsy have popped up on the facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/Squintessential/) at a special price 🙂

Quick Update….

Things have been a little busy (and slow or let’s be honest non existent!) here but I’m still around 🙂 I think I’m back on track emotionally and task wise after the upheaval of the past few months (let’s just say two family funerals and house problems in addition normal worky stress).

Sewing became a chore for awhile especially since it was mostly finishing for swaps… but some time out and trying a new craft seemed to have done the trick. Meet my new obsession….

2015-11-11 09.23.52

And I’m not just talking about Dean Winchester! Although if you insist…………… 😉

Got a few things to show off soon including a yummy almond butter cookie recipe. And I’ve actually been sewing for me! Catching up on my Farmer Wife Blocks and working on a christmassy tablecloth. I’m going to have to start on some presents soon but not today!

Hope everyone’s weekend plans going just as well.

FAL Q4 Goals

Wow where has that time gone? To be honest I seem to be sinking a bit lately- a string of bad news over the past few months meant that my sewing time has been practically non-existent and when I find the time…. let’s just say an emotional black hole. It’s also not helping the days are getting shorter and I wish I had bought a SAD lamp earlier in the year to help…

Anyway… hoping this list will kinda maybe get me back on track (sewing wise) at least.

Hmm. Still need finish quilts for little ones… hopefully for Christmas! There’s a sea themed one, irish chain variation and hazel the hedgehog.

It’s all go here….

Phew. Some spare few moments! If you follow me on Instagram you’ll probably seen that I’ve lost my sewing space for the moment and everything is all over the house!

It’s slowly getting sorted but I’m taking the opportunity to get rid of the yucky yellow that was there when moved in to go white.

I’ve got so much to tell you.. including my long weekend away on the Simply Solids retreat but let’s save that for another day…

P1120850For now I’m trying to reclaim my sanity after a couple of manic grump filled days at work… some binding to finish, Hazel the Hedgehog and that priory square (I think I’m the last person in the world to have made something with it!) well it’s going to be turned into some thing hexie shaped and useful. Then if I get time some Farmer Wife blocks 🙂

Linking up with WIP Wednesday- what are your plans for the evening?

The Farmer’s Wife 1930s Sampler QAL

Normally I’m not a fan of sampler quilts but there is something about the Farmer’s Wife blocks that just grabs me and since I heard there was a 1930s out well that was it!

FW4Anyone who is a regular reader will know I love to use (ok mostly hoard) 1930s reproduction fabric and this book is the perfect excuse to showcase some of them.

Especially since Kerry is hosting a year long quilt along with the aim of 2 blocks a week (manageable right?!). There’s guest bloggers and lots of tips/inspiration to help you on your way. All sorts will be covered including foundation piecing and english paper piecing. So how can anyone refuse?

FW Blogger List

The above links to Kerry’s intro post detailing guest bloggers and details and yes that is me there! How exciting I feel very privileged to be able to contribute a block or two over the next 12 months.

Don’t worry if you think you are missing out there is still time to grab the book and join in- officially the block posts starts on Monday 14th September with block 1 and 2. Some introductory posts are up though on fabric choices etc.

FW1I might have started already…………. since my new sewing room layout it is much easier and fun to match fabrics. (Jessie over at Sew and Quilt has the perfect 30s solids and repro themed bundles) I think Maize might be my new favourite solid (the one used in the right hand block above).

FW2I’m going to try and do the blocks in order… but some like the ones I’m blogging about I’m anxious to play with 🙂

So… are you all fired up to join in? If you are on Instagram waves I’m here 🙂 don’t forget to check out the hashtag #fw1930sqal to see some of the action.

Handpieced Mini Swap

Phew it’s been awhile again since I’ve been around these parts! Things have been a bit busy and a lot of bad news recently but slowly keeping on sewing!

Last month I’ve finished and sent my handpieced mini (yay a tick off the FAL Q3 list 🙂 ) still waiting for it to be received..

P1120646

And this is what I received isn’t it lovely?! Gorgeous colours, shapes and reminds me in places of Blockbusters. Just need find the perfect spot for it!

P1120657-001
