So.. it’s safe to say that it’s a bit of an understatement I was appalling bad at finishing things last year or even sticking to my list!

Farmer’s Wife QAL: Week 16 Eva and Fanny

The Farmer’s Wife Quilt-A-Long hosted by Kerry of Verykerryberry is back after Christmas break and it’s week 16. I’m going to apologise for my photos, every time I went to try it literally poured down.

Here’s Block 31. Eva

P1130328-001I quite like this block and soft colours, I tried so hard to ensure it all blends in with the background pattern. The squares were tiny but manageable.

Block 22. Fanny

P1130326-001I liked the style of this but not sure on my combination, when I was pulling choices it seemed to work but now I wished I switched combinations around in a few places.

Both blocks I machined pieced but this week I’m actually going to try handpiecing Block 34… scary. It be interesting to see how long it takes and what it looks like!

How is everyone getting on with their blocks?

Angles and the IGMini Swap

Isn’t it interesting how different our brains work? How something one way your brain can’t cope with very well turn it around and it’s something you instantly love! This happened to me on the IGMini Swap.

A month ago I received a customs demand for over Β£20 for something from the USA. This did not happen at a good time being almost Christmas etc but it turned out it was my IGMini! I waited til payday before paying the ransom and then it arrived…

IG Mini Swap 30s repro mini sampler (2)

IG Mini Swap 30s repro mini sampler (3)Look at all those goodies and 30s fabrics! Normally I’m not a sampler person but I just loved the look of this and that’s the way it will be going on my wall. Once I fiddle with the hanging tab- the creator the lovely SewAggie originally intended it to be hung with those lone squares at the top but to my brain it is more appealing to have the pattern dance from left to right and I just love the fact there are hexies in there!

IG Mini Swap 30s repro mini sampler (1)And… just look at that quilting! Superb!

IG Mini Swap EPP Diamonds (2)My partner was barely on Instagram and didn’t give much away in clues mostly that she liked blue. She had already done a few patterns I had in mind so in the end I decided on EPP some diamonds in a rotating star pattern. I spent ages dithering over the binding and as I was too scared to try an invisible binding with all those edges I opted for a normal one. Which now to me it detracts from the design a little too much! It is slightly handquilted in the centre and the rest machine quilted.

I FMQ the hell out of that basket there too πŸ™‚ Plus it’s one more thing ticked off my FAL Q4 list!

I now need to spend some time fiddling with minis on the wall- how do you do yours? I’ve tried some tape but it keeps falling down and wary of pushpins as they will leave holes in the fabric.

Just a couple of new(ish) projects….

I know I know… there’s still a few quilts to finish off but I could not resist starting these….

A mini English Paper Pieced wallhanging.. slowly handquilting this one πŸ™‚

A christmas project for me! A wallhanging eventually.. I’m embroidery the girl then hoping to team with hexagons and machine pieced patchwork. The pattern is by Lilipopo. Isn’t she adorable?

What is everyone else up to this week? Linking up with WIP Wednesday.

Sunday Stash…

I have no idea what I have done with this week apart from work and sleep. It’s not been a great one for me sewing wise with being constantly wiped out!

But.. look what has arrived this week!!

P1110075Over the summer I pattern tested for Elizabeth from Oh Fransson those cute hedgies and this week the most amazing thank you gift arrived! Printed patterns and a Kona Charm Pack. My hedgies are almost quilted… I’m still at the stage of deciding to live with what I’ve done or rip it all out and start again (the quilting that is!)

P1110076I also couldn’t resist these two bundles of vintagey goodness from Mary. Don’t they play well together? Hopefully… some point soon this will actually be a quilt for moi.

P1110077

Sneaky peek of what I am currently working on and hoping to link up with Le Challenge in time for this month…. Guess I better get back to it! And finally watching some more eps of the last season of Fringe whilst I’m at it.

July Bees!

This month I’m Queen in two online quilting bees which basically means that I choose a theme/design and each individual in the bee does their own interpretation of it and sends it to me πŸ™‚

First up the I Love Lucy Bee.. it wasn’t hard to pick my theme this month combining epp with 30s repros is a given right?

2014-07-06 15.45.38

Then there’s the UK Fat Stash Bee where you send each bee member a FQ worth of fabric and they mix n match from their own stash. Here is what I sent…. altho the kitties do change colour as does the polka and the other smaller pieces.

P1100874

Here’s what I’ve chosen… either a granny square with kitty in the middle or a patchwork cat block. My cat mad friend birthday is in a few months so thought this might be apt πŸ™‚

P1100870

Can’t wait to see what I get back! Now on to some projects…

Just a quick update….

… I’m still here! The past few weeks has been a little manic between work, nursing a poorly husband and falling ill myself!

Anyway better late than never the winner of the Sunday Stash Giveaway is number 16: Lucy from Charm About You πŸ™‚
SS WinnerNow I’ve been really really good lately and only added these to my stash.. 30s repros is still a must right?!

P1100852

In addition to signing up for FoQ (need to make and send off within the next month!) I’ve also said I do a special quilt for a little girl’s first birthday… forgetting said birthday was 3rd July. But not too bad I’m doing my own variation on a design been planning to do for ages and this is going to be in the center.

P1100849I figured aqua make a nice serene background forΒ  a change just hoping that it works! There will be a fair bit of aqua along with some bright pinks, yellows and maybe some blues if I can work it in… Just to say bunnieeeeees and rain πŸ™‚

Also another quilt block on my list is the great granny square by Lori Holt. I have the book and had the itch forΒ  awhile I just knew these Country Girls FQs. I need more in the range tho! Just need to work out what other fabrics I can throw in to coordinate with this.

Sunday Stash: It’s all about the Vintage….

Lately my fabric drooling habits has slowly been shifting as I find a bit more “me” in my choices and what I choose to create. When I starting collecting fabric I did not have a clue so ended up in the beginning with a lot of cutesy one off novelty prints and polycottons. A lot of which I’ve slowly been shifting but if anyone wants any of those…. πŸ˜‰

Using and collecting 30s repros fabrics I inevitably made the jump into vintage and aren’t these gorgeous new additions to my stash?

P1100492

I seriously love the blue and red sheets, it might be one of those I keep to stroke forever…. or I might wait until the perfect quilt to back it with πŸ™‚

P1100495More of my fave bits here! And if you fancy scoring some of these take a look at Sew And Quilt and Mary Emmens’ shop for more vintagey goodness.

P1100497I also have these…. clothes. One of which mine the others acquired at a car boot. All freshly washed ready to be turned into something… I’m sure it will come to me eventually!
