Fabric.. Quilt Festival and Craft Club

Finally a new post…

Work, study and a nasty virus has taken me up the past month or so but today had some time out to go to the Exeter Quilt Festival. More photos on that to come once I figure out how to get the photos out of my phone.. Meanwhile there’s a cutesy one on my instagram page here.

I was quite good and restrained myself.. trying to save for a) Sissix Big Shot and b) another sewing machine. These are what I picked up today…

The owl is actually a large panel full of owls and sweet little birdies- am thinking quilt or for a child sized bed 🙂 The ones on the left are for meeee and hopefully be bags or something soon… I had to go back for the others so cute and perfect for little boys.

Came home to a parcel and it’s the new Craft Club from Seamstar- am really pleased with it. Go check it out here if you fancy trying it.

Brilliantly suggested by Claire (Claire E Poppins on twitter) it is perfect to jumpstart any christmas projects as everyone needs one.

Without further ado…. the next mission will be to create a mini tote bag!

There are some fab tutorials around- my personal fave is using one of my favourite fabric lines.

This gorgeous tutorial can be found over on VeryKerryBerry’s blog along with some other amazing bits and pieces.

Catch Up… And Finally Some Pin Cushion Lovelies!

Phew where has this week gone? I did managed to have a couple of days off work but filled them with crafty goodness.

Thursday saw me in Delabole at a workshop learning piping, hidden zips and buttonholes… isn’t this lovely?

Karen is a very patient instructor and lovely! If you fancied booking on to one of her workshops or even buying some of her lovely goodies- her website is the place to go! Take a peek at Just Bunting.

Friday I trotted up to Exeter to the Creative Stitches and Hobbycrafts event through several weather zones varying from bright sun and blue sky to heavy bouts of mist and rain!  But it was worth it… see what I’ve got!

Question is…. what to create with it all?!

Now… as a treat for reading this far have you seen some of the creations from the Pin Cushion swap?

A lovely strawberry! From Frances Hill of Tilly Jackson.

Isn’t the lovely- teapot and girlie from Jackie or MrsJC.

Some more gorgeousness from Claire.

From Zoe of Buttoned Up and Pinned Down.

What Sophie of Cannybelle received from Michelle.

MrsShilts and Bluebirds and Daisies cushions 🙂

Last but not least Sarah’s turtle and my girlie looking owl 🙂

Aren’t they all lovely and amazing? Which one is your favourite?

Now some of you may be waiting to hear this… the next swap will be annouced tomorrow! And you have Claire to thank for the idea…

Head on over to the flickr group to join and keep up to date on any news!

Summer Swaps

So where has the summer gone? It seems the past couple months have whizzed by. I have been busy (lots of new things coming your way soon…)!

Over the summer I participated in two swaps- a summer swap by Kat of Kat Sighs and the other.. the pincushion swap I organised!

First up this is what I received from Jackie of MrsJC. Isn’t it lovely? As soon as my spare room/sewing room is organised it will be there!

I’ve become obsessed with Owl pincushions (seriously there are a few dotted around my house….) so this is one with a twist for Jackie! Summery fabric but with dried lavender mixed in with the wadding for a lovely scent.

Next up is my pin cushion swap! This was so fun to do and overall a success I think!

From Sarah a gorgeous turtle I dare not stick him with pins tho so think he will be the sewing machine guardian.

One thing I found out about Sarah was she liked girly things so I hope my owl was pretty enough 🙂 It’s a shame in my huge stash those were the only buttons that complemented the look so I added a bow.

So.. want to see what others have done in the swap? Keep your eye open over the next couple days for some delicious looking photos… and you never know details of the next swap!

Bead Soup Blog Party- Reveal 3

Well the date is finally here! You might have remembered a little while ago I showed off the beads my partner Kathy of Bay Moon Design sent me? As a reminder here are some of them… (I have used some bits already before taking this photo).

The idea was to use one focal bead and the clasp in your own way. The rest of the beads are for inspiration.

Now I definitely knew I wanted to use the seaglass and silk ribbon… but how?

This one was such fun to do as I’ve not done any wire wrapping in ages! I’ve teamed it with a focal clasp from my own stash.

I am obsessed with delicate pretty bracelets and couldn’t wait to turn the focal and clasp into one! Using beads from what Kathy sent me teamed with silver plated wire and chain from my stash.

Some co-ordinating earrings using more of the amazing beads I’ve been sent.

This one is definitely my favourite! Since I saw these seaglasses I had the design of alternating them in my head and I’ve think it turned out rather well!

Ta-da… I’ve not used all of what I’ve been sent but it’s there for a rainy day and I have enough of the silk ribbon left to make a bracelet- just waiting for the right beads to call to me!

Hopefully Kathy likes what I have created. Thank you Lori Anderson for hosting this 🙂

My New Favourite Thing….

If anyone is like me.. you will have loads of crafty bits and bobs lying around from wool to fabrics to fimo to beads and even artsy stuff.

After being inspired to pick up the Michael Powell stamp from Trago a few weeks ago I finally decided to try it out……. since I had enough jewellery in my shop for a bit and the sewing machine isn’t wanting to be friends this weekend.

Usually with stamps I would just throw myself in with the limited supply of pro markers I own but as I’m taking part in the Crafty Folk Round Robin Giveaway- full details here. And…. it’s arrived on the doorstop for my turn I needed to do something different.

Out came the art set… mmm I tried pastels first with some colouring pencils and promarkers thrown in- looks alright doesn’t it?

Then I remembered some watercolour pencils I bought awhile back and decided to play…. attempts 1 and 2 in order.

Number 2 is definitely my favourite! And now… I might just be addicted to watercolour pencils as I’m already planning my next project.

What does everyone think?

P.S- So… the Purse giveaway ends in 40 minutes- will it be you?

Yup… I’m not just a Fabric Addict… Really!

Well what a week so far- I’m exhausted and it’s only Tuesday! My to do list is ever growing…. so time for a droolworthy post…

….. Pretty Pretty Fabrics…..

So who can resist them? I know I have trouble doing that which easily explains why my fabric tower is pretty much crammed full. Which I discovered yesterday to my dismay when I gently placed my latest acquisions in. And guess what? My thoughts weren’t exactly I need to use some up… but more of where can I store new ones?

Mostly when I go giddy and buy I don’t have a certain project in mind… oops how naughty!

Here’s what’s hiding in the top drawer- aren’t they lovely? And it is a tiny fraction of what I hold… oh dear.

I’m not just a fabric hoarder too… I have a massive collection of beads and papercraft of which I had to add to last week. Not sure what I’m doing there either…. but how can you resist it?!

I’m sure some of it will become WIPS before long. But if you have any nifty pattern ideas or tutorials on what I should make with it feel free to send them my way 🙂

And stop drooling…… I’m thinking of holding a sewalong or sewing circle group (more on that to come) but if you are interested in the idea at this early stage just let me know.

Hannah.x

P.S- Oh have you checked out a previous post on the pursey giveaway? 😀 It ends on Sunday 20th May with the winner drawn at 8pm………

Oh dear…. How many works in progress?

Ok.. I finally got round to clearing my desk to make room to a) play with fabrics or b) play with papercrafts i.e the new docrafts goody bag I picked up last week.

However to my dismay I found all these cut out and ready to be sewn.

The bag I remembered it has been on my to do list to finish for well… almost six weeks. It was supposed to be my treat for when I started my new job which was mid April.

However I’ve noticed a stupid mistake! One of the lining pieces I’ve cut out the wrong way. Hopefully I have enough material left do another. It might look ugly now! But it’s my first real bag I’m trying and it’s a fab 50s style pattern by Emma Brennan

Can you guess what the others are going to be? Yup- purses and a funky retroish phone cosy. Well I hope it will turn into a cosy totally my own pattern and playing with it at the moment. We will see……..

Hopefully I can finish these this week and then on to more projects! But what to try next………… I have so many fabrics it’s hard to decide.

How are your WIPS coming along?

P.S- Don’t forget to check out the Purse Giveaway here
