Stitching Secret Santa

A couple months ago Sheila (Sewchet) had this amazing idea to hold a secret santa with a max limit of £10 but we can throw in whatever goodies we like to go with it!

Mine went off to Nikki and as she was getting into dressmaking and loved freestyle embroidery I included the Colette Ginger skirt pattern, some gorgeous woolfelt I obtained from Sew and Quilt, along with a notebook and a ruffly scarf I’ve knitted (one of my very few knitted accomplishments probably because it is so easy! To see the goodies check out Nikki’s post here. I felt really bad about not including something sewn but with everything happening I kept putting it off and if I waited it would have got there after christmas! However I think something might be making it’s way pretty soon….

My parcel was unfortunately delayed in the post but opening it was a really good new year present and well worth the wait! Thanks so much Lucie!! To see Lucie’s post about what she put together and why it’s all here 🙂

A lovely owl cushion, a liberty needlebook, hanging hearts, gorgeous crochet goodies and isn’t that frog amazing?

P1130323Crochet is on my list to practice and get better at (along with knitting!) so am in awe of this little set, a pin cushion and measuring tape.

The closeup of mr frog is really blurry so you have to make do with the above! I didn’t realise there was pins in the pin cushion so when I picked it up jabbed myself something proper.

Really pleased with how this swap went and will be looking out for more Sheila does.

Sewing World

I was lucky enough to receive a copy of Sewing World magazine this week and I was really surprised and impressed with it! It’s UK based with UK contributors and has all you can expect from a crafty magazine and more. Light, fresh and airy there is something for everyone….

P1090901

Alongside the latest news, products, book reviews and giveaways there are interesting articles, interviews and stories. All laid out in an easy to read, easy to follow format.

P1090902 P1090905

Not to mention the projects!

P1090903

P1090904

There’s a range of projects from simple quick easy makes to quilting and dressmaking. All well designed, easy to follow and clear steps. And there are pull out paper patterns in the correct size. No messing about with the photocopier and zoom which puts me off creating something quite easily!

All in all it’s a really good read and doesn’t just cater to one type of sewist. This issue I quite liked the pattern masterclass and hearing about the history of M Makower & Co Ltd as well as seeing all the lovely patterns that are available from Simplicity. It has definitely made me want to try sewing my own clothes some more.

So… have you read this yet? The next issue is out now and it’s definitely one I’m going to look out for each month and I have my eye on trying some of these projects out… who knows maybe in a few days you’ll get to peek at one 🙂

Fabric.. Quilt Festival and Craft Club

Finally a new post…

Work, study and a nasty virus has taken me up the past month or so but today had some time out to go to the Exeter Quilt Festival. More photos on that to come once I figure out how to get the photos out of my phone.. Meanwhile there’s a cutesy one on my instagram page here.

I was quite good and restrained myself.. trying to save for a) Sissix Big Shot and b) another sewing machine. These are what I picked up today…

The owl is actually a large panel full of owls and sweet little birdies- am thinking quilt or for a child sized bed 🙂 The ones on the left are for meeee and hopefully be bags or something soon… I had to go back for the others so cute and perfect for little boys.

Came home to a parcel and it’s the new Craft Club from Seamstar- am really pleased with it. Go check it out here if you fancy trying it.

Crafty Creatives Box

Last month I’ve heard of Crafty Creatives– a company where you sign up and get a box full of crafty goodies to play with each month. Perfect I thought for random inspiration.

Cue much squeeing when this arrived….

Some of the goodies…. coloured jingle bells, vintage style alice in wonderland postcard, ribbon and more!

There was even this cute project inside a crochet mouse- which I can’t wait to attempt! Although my most recent crochet was a disaster…

Definitely worth subscribing to for me this month.. I just got to think of some things to create with it.

It’s not perfect…..

… but hey everyone has got to start somewhere!

Since my studies are officially finished for the summer and I have my evenings back…. I decided it wouldn’t do to have some relatively free time after my full time day job.

So… I’ve signed up to a Bead Soup Party (more details on then dreckly) and Pennydog’s Quilting Bee- The UK Borders Agency.

Recently I did a patchwork cushion workshop and loved the result- don’t you?

So based on this I thought hmm it should be fine….

whipped up a design……

chose my fabrics…..

descended into darkness with grumbles… and after much deliberation and unpicking changed my design ever so slightly….

But what do you think? Yay or nay for the bee?

Yup… I’m not just a Fabric Addict… Really!

Well what a week so far- I’m exhausted and it’s only Tuesday! My to do list is ever growing…. so time for a droolworthy post…

….. Pretty Pretty Fabrics…..

So who can resist them? I know I have trouble doing that which easily explains why my fabric tower is pretty much crammed full. Which I discovered yesterday to my dismay when I gently placed my latest acquisions in. And guess what? My thoughts weren’t exactly I need to use some up… but more of where can I store new ones?

Mostly when I go giddy and buy I don’t have a certain project in mind… oops how naughty!

Here’s what’s hiding in the top drawer- aren’t they lovely? And it is a tiny fraction of what I hold… oh dear.

I’m not just a fabric hoarder too… I have a massive collection of beads and papercraft of which I had to add to last week. Not sure what I’m doing there either…. but how can you resist it?!

I’m sure some of it will become WIPS before long. But if you have any nifty pattern ideas or tutorials on what I should make with it feel free to send them my way 🙂

And stop drooling…… I’m thinking of holding a sewalong or sewing circle group (more on that to come) but if you are interested in the idea at this early stage just let me know.

P.S- Oh have you checked out a previous post on the pursey giveaway? 😀 It ends on Sunday 20th May with the winner drawn at 8pm………

Oh dear…. How many works in progress?

Ok.. I finally got round to clearing my desk to make room to a) play with fabrics or b) play with papercrafts i.e the new docrafts goody bag I picked up last week.

However to my dismay I found all these cut out and ready to be sewn.

The bag I remembered it has been on my to do list to finish for well… almost six weeks. It was supposed to be my treat for when I started my new job which was mid April.

However I’ve noticed a stupid mistake! One of the lining pieces I’ve cut out the wrong way. Hopefully I have enough material left do another. It might look ugly now! But it’s my first real bag I’m trying and it’s a fab 50s style pattern by Emma Brennan

Can you guess what the others are going to be? Yup- purses and a funky retroish phone cosy. Well I hope it will turn into a cosy totally my own pattern and playing with it at the moment. We will see……..

Hopefully I can finish these this week and then on to more projects! But what to try next………… I have so many fabrics it’s hard to decide.

How are your WIPS coming along?
