Some quilty finishes…

In my last post I hinted that I had finished four quilts over the Christmas break and well I have! Sadly though I FORGOT to get photos of it finished what is wrong with me??? So I’m sorry in advance as some are clearly in-progress shots.

My favourite finish is this Disney Cars Chevron Quilt for my two year old nephew Oliver. He did receive the knight/dragon quilt for his birthday in August but he loves it so much he can’t be without it for a day hence the need for another… Isn’t it great when someone truly loves your work?

img_20161020_213004.jpgDecember/January also sees the arrival of a new nephew and a friend’s little one so two pram quilts! and yay to a picture of one finished!!

img_20161002_122742.jpgimg_20170103_182308_592.jpgThe fourth quilt was a different variation of the dragon/knight one I did for Oliver but for another nephew…

All were quilted with the only quilting I seem to know how to do.. that of the wonky straight line. I have a feeling my walking foot is now shot and it was very last minute finishes quilting with the standard..

Linking up (yay I rememberd) to the FAL Q4 finishes party as these were on my starting list!

Christmas Wistfulness

It’s that time when everything starts going back to normal… our decorations came down yesterday and suddenly there is space again. Looking back over the period it has been a good Christmas!

I may not have done everything I wanted to but part of my determination to be better organised I’ve written a list for next year and will be ticking something off every month or so… starting with finishing hand quilting and binding this tablecloth that I did finished piecing enough to use!

wp-1483463815603.jpgIt’s my own cobbled together design and I love it (but then who isn’t partial to stars!). I’ve done approx 2/3 of the quilting so far in around watching Gilmore Girls etc.

I’ve been lucky enough to be spoiled with gifts that is so me! Just look at all this…books and handmade goodies including that gorgeous “All I want for Christmas is Books” by the talented Jen over at Miss Bohemia. My friend Gill even surprised with a mini present quilt that promptly went on the lil bookcase to shine πŸ™‚

I did manage to make a few gifts, FOUR quilts (more on that soon), some stitchy pies and this cute Christmas penguin cross stitch.

For me though.. family makes the day extra special. This card is from my five year old nephew and I thought it looks like a villain from Teenage Ninja Mutant Turtles (he is obsessed the way boys can be…) but nope it’s a mummy santa. And if you get the reference on the gift tag gold star to you my geeky friend πŸ™‚

I hope everyone has had a lovely break- today been a bit of a set back with car problems. Needed a jumpstart, a new battery and two new tyres it’s a good job I also have this week off week! Especially since I can play with my new overlocker…… If anyone has any tips or simple projects I would appreciate it!

Q4- The Finish A Long

Eek.. it’s that time again to come up withΒ  a Finish Along list and it’s the last one of 2014! Where has the time gone?? This week especially has been full of ups and downs as I’m still suffering from a silly virus and headaches which when combined with the day job of computers has completely knocked me out.

But I’ve managed to finish some embroidery last night and as I had nothing prepped to sew to the end of Strictly I made my list… and kinda wished I hadn’t! It’s scary even for me and most of it is stuff I have to do. I might have actually taken on too much but we will see. I am so looking forward to my two weeks off in November where I can knock off a few of these “C” makes.

P1110119

1. Woodland Critters Quilt- embroidery, EPP and handquilted! I’m new to embroidery really but it’s becoming a bit of an additction and I like to think I’m improving. The three there took me allllllll week and I’m so tempted to redo the owl and hedgehog but must resist. This has got to be finished by the end of the month…. as it’s being entered into the West Country Quilt Show.

2-4. The “Harper” Quilt, Oliver’s Playmat and Farry’s Quilt as seen here. Yup not much further on those…

P1110121 P1110120

5. IG Mini Quilt Swap- I’m planning to use the teals/blues in top photo along with triangles and hexagons.

6. Little Quilts Swap- The Month of May Mini in top photo with squares and scalloped edges

7. Liberty of London Swap- some grey linen with rainbow liberty for a sewing machine cover and a teeny mini

8. From the Sew Cute to Cuddle book- planning a dragon (for nephew 1), a monkey for Nephew 2 and an owl for my niece.

P1110123

9. Finish my “C” inspired mini wallhanging with the Lilipopo girl embroidery. The girl is done I just have some plans to add a tree and border/quilt it.

10. Stocking for Nephew 2- with his name embroidered on top in linen.

11. Hexie Trees Christmas Table Runner thing.

P1110122

12. I still have these to do- some Sew Together bags as thank you gifts..

I also have this 30s repro mini to finish hand quilting. As well as sort out my “For the Love of Jane” Swap, “Handmade Ornaments” Swap a special Cat Quilt for a friend’s birthday, a bag or two… The list continues but all these will be “bonus” projects as I think I do have more than enough to be getting on with!

Let’s hope I feel ok this week… although I do have a work trip out of County for Pensions Reform 2015 Seminar…. the joys of the day job.

Phew I’ll see you sometime right?! Linking up with Katy over at The Littlest Thistle.

Finally.. some rest!

I hope everyone has had a lovely christmas and a bit of a break? Today is the first day I feel that I can start to rest as work has been chaos and finishing off some presents (even on Christmas day!).

Unfortunately I forgot to take some photos but this week alone when I was not at work made 3 divided baskets and two sprocket cushions. Then Christmas Eve after work decided to start a little bit of epp towards another present for my sister… Sneaky peek… it won’t be finish for a day or so but she doesn’t mind πŸ™‚

Here’s my lovely presents I received- I’m a massive scifi/fantasy person so these boxsets went down a treat and perfect to sit and epp to when it’s dark and cold. The seal pup kit am majorly excited about doing and love the FQ stack my brother got me (his partner has good taste).

Presents

I also received my Popular Patchwork Secret Santa which was a little disappointing to be honest as the brief was to make a gift and all I got was the following. I quite like the purple flowers tho and yet to hear back whether my recipient liked her gifts that I made.

P1100375

I also had my first treat from the Blossom Heart Quilt shop- love these and not quite sure what to do with them yet….

P1100376

I’ve also cut into this pile of beauties for a diamond epp project that will be starting (yes starting when I have a zillion other things to finish!) but I love the 30s inspired prints and hopefully this will work… into a mini wallhanging for my sewing space πŸ™‚

Has anyone given into fabric sales yet? I’m still holding out…

Just quickly…

I’m still here! The past few weeks has been chaos- doctors, being ill (again!) and covering sickness at work.

Not fun! As it has meant this week being out of the house just after 7am and not being back til almost 7pm… Very little time to sew and play. Gutted missed most of the SMS giveaways but as my work day is spent on a computer I really couldn’t face it when got home.

However some quick finishes last week (feels like a month ago now!)

2013-12-08 19.21.44 2013-12-08 19.22.50A wabbit for my nephew and my secret santa gifts πŸ™‚ I’ve also need to put the finishing touches on my Minerva Crafts Blogger Challenge before I reveal that to you hopefully life will calm down next week (but doubt it!).

What are you all up to?

Sometimes you just need to stop!

So… my morning went like this woke 530am, tried to get back to sleep. Fail. Moved about 620am in need of caffeine and crumpets slathered with chilli Philadephia yum (if you not tried this do!). Watched an episode of Vampire Diaries on itvplayer whilst waiting for the husband to get up and get ready for work.

After which I could sew! I’m part of the UK Borders- Add a Border Bee organised by the talented Kerry of Pennydog. I thought no problem will work on phase two of my border. However after much cutting, sewing and unpinning I’ve only ended up with the corner pinwheels… slightly wonky!

The green border I added yesterday and my *plan* is pinwheels in the corner then the rest of the border made up of Moda Snow Batik in bows with the white/starry fabric. At this rate it might take me all year.. 😦

I did finally finish my first proper mini quilt yesterday- this uber cute Cupcake wallhanging.. well I just need to add the tabs to it to go on the wall but I love it… imperfect quirks and all. Ssh pretend you don’t notice the slightly chipped button.. I broke a needle on it.

I really love the quilted feel of this! It reminds me of a table cloth so have added that to my ever expanding list….

Last thing I promise today… this will be going in my shop soon- what do you think? A Christmassy Penguin fabric art πŸ™‚
