Bee Blocks!

Phew I knew July was going to be a busy month between finishing my festival of quilts submission and deadlines at work but it ran on until august.. then September. I finally found and opened all the bee post I received for two  Flickr bees i was “Queen” in July today.

First up…. I chose 30s repros as my theme for the I Love Lucy Bee- aren’t they lovely?

P1110094

The other bee… is Fat Stash Bee and I chose loosely cat themed, granny squares and cat blocks… isn’t everyone creative! The aim is to turn this into a quilt for a friend….P1110095 P1110096 P1110097

Can you tell my favourites?? Seriously love Nikki’s Foundation Pieced Cat and the applique ones 🙂

I’m really not loving Flickr at the moment.. since the app update I can’t access group discussions or Flickr mail! Considering I spend my working week on the computer (with two screens) I really can’t face going on it at home nor can my poor phone cope with the internet version…

Hope everyone is having a lovely weekend.

Lucy Boston Patchwork of the Cross… up to date!

Right earlier in the year I mentioned this epp bee I was a part of… sewing honeycombs for Lucy Boston Patchwork of the Crosses block.. I don’t think I’ve shown much of what I’ve done so here goes and in no particular order… as I just finished September today so woohoo all caught up 🙂

August September May February June LBPC April

And oh look I found my post from being Queen Bee in July for two bees 🙂 Fun time to open tomorrow and share!

If you would like to see more Lucy blocks pop on over to Jan’s blog as I am constantly in awe of her fussycutting skills.

WIP Wednesday…. busy busy busy

Eek wednesday already?? I’m losing track but here’s a peek of what I’m currently working on…….

P1110066

The Harper Quilt… for my almost six month old niece and the way it is going seriously tempted to keep it for myself! The hourglasses not sure now whether will suit it… plan was for it to be in the center of the filler blocks.

P1110069

Irish Chain for Farryn… the aqua background I’m still trying to love… think I’m mostly a white/snow kinda girl!

P1110070

Ollie’s Playmat- my nephew is just over a week and half old already! And ever so cute 🙂 Sea themed playmat for him with his name pieced on the back.

What is everyone working on? Linking up with…..

Festival of Quilts

Well I’ve been back four days now it’s time I wrote something about my time in the Midlands and at Festival of Quilts! Firstly this is me and my entry…..

P1100921Overall I like it… it’s just the finishing touches that let it down and in the interests of transparency and future record…. my judge’s comments were much better than expected! True some of that could have been avoided if I didn’t left it to the last minute to decide…

P1110054

I did manage to come away with some goodies from the trade stalls and then at the Fabric Guild in Leicester… 10448855_831060193580357_1761943350_n 10584774_570055229787503_633954499_n

Now on to the quilts and in no particular order these are some of my favourites! Unfortunately I forgot to photo pretty much most of the credits so I do apologise hopefully you be able to find out or let me know 🙂

My photography isn’t too great in these so I must have been pretty distracted!

P1110046Love everything about this the colours, hexies and stars.P1110028Right back to my childhood and memories of playing.. how cool is this?!

At the moment I’m really loving this type of work, the above harbour one reminds me of some art I recently saw down St Ives.

So now you guess what caught me eye… there was loads more I loved but either forgot to photo or too many people in the way. Did anyone else go and have fun?

I also popped by the new Modern branch of the Quilters Guild and signed up. Sadly there’s not too much of a Cornish quilting presence so think might have to change that…. anybody interested?

Billy Bass (PennyDog’s Mini)

Well I’m still recovering from my time away in the Midlands catching up with a few people, Festival of Quilts and my first foray into the Fabric Guild. Not unpacked yet or sorted my photos so more on that later in the week….

Have you all met Kerry from PennyDog yet? If you haven’t pop on over to her blog here and prepare to be amazed by her designs and creativity.  She is definitely one of my favourite inspirational people and I mean really look at this Billy Bass…. It takes me right back to when the original craze happened.

If you pop over to her post here you can hear the music too! I was lucky enough to see this in person and it is ingenious.

Now why am I telling you all about Billy?? Kerry has made the Top 16 in the Sewvivor competition and Billy Bass is her entry for Round 1 Nautical theme. At the moment there is a public vote open to vote for the favourites out of the 16 but it is open from yesterday (Monday) to tomorrow (Wednesday) so pop on over here to see what the fuss is about and vote 😉

The winners will be announced next week but there is a sewvivor sewalong happening too where you can create to the themes each time and have a chance to win a prize more info on the bottom of this post 🙂 I’m hoping to grab more sleep, tidy my space, unpack and get started on a little something to enter in time but for now I’ll leave you with an embroidered fish I manage to freehand this morning….

Finally I can breathe..

… just a little bit! The past couple of weeks have been a little insane with one week not very well at all and having to contend with payroll stuff for work then finishing off a pattern test and… my Illusions Quilt. Which I had a deadline for it to be received by Friday 25th.

But I did it… usually I take forever to finish a project and not often try anything completely new on something bigger than a block. Things I learnt throughout the Illusions Quilt process……

1) Do not dither over a design for like forever.

2) Four days before you need to post it is not the best time to change your mind and completely rip out most of your work with a view to starting again. Especially since it was a critical period workwise

3) Do not leave it til almost the last couple of weeks to get it done…

4) Do not the night before decide to practice free motion quilting on it… (just the corners mind!)

5) I can do y seams and curves plus they are addictive 🙂

P1100907

I must admit that not once I felt stressed or had a panic attack even though few times it looked close to not being finished. I guess this is a side effect of my job of Payroll Officer comes in I’ve trained myself to be calm and just get on with it. As Richard Cypher from the Sword of Truth series say “think of the solution and not the problem” Something I try to keep in mind.. mostly.

Anyway……. ten minutes before we left to post it I finished the hanging sleeve (my first so fingers crossed it’s not too wonky!) but here are the rubbishy photos. Just don’t look too close… the piecing… the quilting awful and the bottom right corner gah it’s all curvy and doesn’t hang straight down. Of course that doesn’t matter due to the wonky sleeve right?! One thing I did get right the fabric choices!

P1100908

Technically this is my first finish of Q3 (go me!) for the Finish Along 2014 think when/if I get it back I do a proper post on it with better photos… I

In the meantime anyone going to Festival of Quilts? I’m there on the thursday and friday. One quilt I’m espeically looking forward to seeing in person is Mr Bowie of Kerry’s creation. (Massive thanks to Kerry without which the above design wouldn’t have been possible as easily 🙂 )

And…. it’s one thing ticked off my FAL Q3 list 🙂

Happy Sunday! I’m off to try and do something a bit slower..

Finish Along Quarter 3 – My Goals.

It’s that time again to look at sewing goals for the next quarter of the finish a long and boy do I have a big list this time! Let’s hope I do much better than my previous attempts eh 😉 Considering that I only maybe finish one thing from the list but start and finish more stuff.

Right first up my most immediate concern……

P1100900

My “Illusions” Quilt. I was hoping to get it finished piecing today but those pesky y seams are being time consuming! Yup that is a penny there for size… One of my issues is that on the last bit of the seam it puckers slightly so I’m going to have to add an extra step in.

Hopefully by mid week it be ready to start quilting which ideally needs to be finished by the end of next sunday….

P1100901

Hazel the Hedgehog quilt! I’m pattern testing for Oh Fransson and this little guy is addictive! Not doing too bad almost another five hedgies piececd which means 3 more, sashing and quilting. Ideally this week…

P1100891

Adding the seal toy back on the list with the new addition of the cat! My nephew turns 3 in August and loves Jess from Postman Pat so thought do him a little Jess 🙂 As well as… a Postman Pat quilt or something made out of fabric. What does a 3 year old need really??!

P1100885

Oh dear… the Irish Chain still. Not much more than last week I’m sorry little adventurer it is on it’s way just slightly delayed.

My vintage sheets and quilty barns needs rebasting and quilting…

P1100904 P1100903

Two Thimble Blossom Minis need finishing… the Rise and Shine (top one) I completely mucked up so it’s lounging in my desk drawer. I take it out maybe do one bit and back in it goes! It is very important to test one block first and not go through and do them all…

P1100905 P1100902 P1100892Fun bits! Want to do my Country Girls granny square quilt, some austen/sherlock minis, a Fox wallhanging, a sewing machine cover and… clothes!!

Plus this list wouldn’t be complete without some EPP… my nursery hexie quilt needs a border before quilting. Hexie tablecloth.. chrysanthemum tablecentre pieces plus want to start a 30s repro double wedding ring quilt.

Think I’m going to get bored? What’s the bet I’m going to do other stuff than what’s here!

July Bees!

This month I’m Queen in two online quilting bees which basically means that I choose a theme/design and each individual in the bee does their own interpretation of it and sends it to me 🙂

First up the I Love Lucy Bee.. it wasn’t hard to pick my theme this month combining epp with 30s repros is a given right?

2014-07-06 15.45.38

Then there’s the UK Fat Stash Bee where you send each bee member a FQ worth of fabric and they mix n match from their own stash. Here is what I sent…. altho the kitties do change colour as does the polka and the other smaller pieces.

P1100874

Here’s what I’ve chosen… either a granny square with kitty in the middle or a patchwork cat block. My cat mad friend birthday is in a few months so thought this might be apt 🙂

P1100870

Can’t wait to see what I get back! Now on to some projects…

Hannah.x

MMSC- Almost a Snail’s Pace…

Oh dear… not much progress at all since I last checked in. Hopefully by admitting it will give me some oomph to get going!

P1100692

My 30s repro lap quilt.. this is all stitched so far and a few diamonds basted but a load more repros have made it into my stash since so need to cut and baste… This is a pet project so keeps being put back..

P1100694

Another pet project… which I’m trying not to share til I finish it… but all I need to do is the border.. see that cutesy flower print yup a lot of hexies, half hexies and partial hexies to go on then then its done. I’m thinking of hand quilting this one too. It’s intended to be a nursery wallhanging…

P1100695

This a more recent one… is an prototype to a pattern idea I have now once i finished adding those two diamonds do i applique or epp the rest!

Decisions… decisions.. and I can tell you not much sewing again today! Yesterday I managed to watch a massive 7 episodes of Grimm over mums and be catching up on a few more today.

Finish Along Q1 Almost an fail…

So back earlier in the year I had a tiny list of seven things to finish this quarter… and how many out of that did I actually do?

Just one…… oops! To be fair I have finished things just not on this list and not things in my to do pile either… New projects consumed me and now I have a mini wall!

This is it.. and apologies in advance for the photo. It’s from my lovely recipient as duh forgot to snap it before I sent it off.

Mini

Hope everyone did a much better job than me! And the next quarter I will be better I promise.
