(Or the block that almost did not make it…)
Hi! I’m back again in Kerry’s 1930s Farmer’s Wife QAL and ready to show you Block 72: Mrs Smith! When I first chose this block I was drawn to the star it was only when I went to piece it awhile back I realised how many pieces was within the construction ouch! That being said I don’t think it’s looking too bad……
When I dug it out this weekend for photos in the sun (hello downpour of rain!) I didn’t like it in comparison with my other blocks and almost redid it… but the fabrics are just too cute.
Sorry no photos on it’s own as with my purple mat it really washed the block out! This block is machined pieced still I’ve not been brave enough to try either handpiecing or EPP on one of these! It’s a bit different from my other blocks but hoping with the mix of 30s solids and style fabrics it’ll work in the end
I always love reading the letters that go with the block and Mrs Smith is no exception, it evokes a sense of comfort, happiness and friendship.
If you are on Instagram please stop by I can be found @quirkyhannah and you can see many more gorgeous blocks in the hashtags #fw1930sqal
Hoping to catch up some more soon and lay them out properly! How is everyone else doing?

I have no idea what I have done with this week apart from work and sleep. It’s not been a great one for me sewing wise with being constantly wiped out!
But.. look what has arrived this week!!
Over the summer I pattern tested for Elizabeth from Oh Fransson those cute hedgies and this week the most amazing thank you gift arrived! Printed patterns and a Kona Charm Pack. My hedgies are almost quilted… I’m still at the stage of deciding to live with what I’ve done or rip it all out and start again (the quilting that is!)
I also couldn’t resist these two bundles of vintagey goodness from Mary. Don’t they play well together? Hopefully… some point soon this will actually be a quilt for moi.
Sneaky peek of what I am currently working on and hoping to link up with Le Challenge in time for this month…. Guess I better get back to it! And finally watching some more eps of the last season of Fringe whilst I’m at it.
How is everyone’s sunday stitching plans going? Linking up with Molli Sparkles…

It’s that time again to look at sewing goals for the next quarter of the finish a long and boy do I have a big list this time! Let’s hope I do much better than my previous attempts eh 😉 Considering that I only maybe finish one thing from the list but start and finish more stuff.
Right first up my most immediate concern……
My “Illusions” Quilt. I was hoping to get it finished piecing today but those pesky y seams are being time consuming! Yup that is a penny there for size… One of my issues is that on the last bit of the seam it puckers slightly so I’m going to have to add an extra step in.
Hopefully by mid week it be ready to start quilting which ideally needs to be finished by the end of next sunday….
Hazel the Hedgehog quilt! I’m pattern testing for Oh Fransson and this little guy is addictive! Not doing too bad almost another five hedgies piececd which means 3 more, sashing and quilting. Ideally this week…
Adding the seal toy back on the list with the new addition of the cat! My nephew turns 3 in August and loves Jess from Postman Pat so thought do him a little Jess 🙂 As well as… a Postman Pat quilt or something made out of fabric. What does a 3 year old need really??!
Oh dear… the Irish Chain still. Not much more than last week I’m sorry little adventurer it is on it’s way just slightly delayed.
My vintage sheets and quilty barns needs rebasting and quilting…
Two Thimble Blossom Minis need finishing… the Rise and Shine (top one) I completely mucked up so it’s lounging in my desk drawer. I take it out maybe do one bit and back in it goes! It is very important to test one block first and not go through and do them all…
Fun bits! Want to do my Country Girls granny square quilt, some austen/sherlock minis, a Fox wallhanging, a sewing machine cover and… clothes!!
Plus this list wouldn’t be complete without some EPP… my nursery hexie quilt needs a border before quilting. Hexie tablecloth.. chrysanthemum tablecentre pieces plus want to start a 30s repro double wedding ring quilt.
Think I’m going to get bored? What’s the bet I’m going to do other stuff than what’s here!

Right it’s that time of the week again and oops I do have more to show you. Technically this might be my last major stash additions for a bit as I’m going on a fabric diet! (More on that another time as you are here to drool right?!)
My naughty purchases with some birthday money…. Barcelona F8 set and the top three from my local quilt shop. The pink was in the remnant bin at a bargain price… it called to me and when I got home I realised it was actually part of the Lecien Old New 30s range one I’ve not seen before and do not have! Love love love, on another note if you have any from this range pretty pretty please can I buy or swap 😉
The other two pieces are FQS, middle- Button Tree Lane of Henry Glass Fabrics. This is to finish off a long overdue gift… And the other is earmarked for some Post Circle goodness and is Postcard Garden of Red Rooster Fabrics.
Friday was the lunch time car boot down Falmouth (where I work) and being such a lovely day it did bring out a few people! Managed to get these for bargain prices- all cottons and most of the pieces large enough to do clothes! The daisies top right think I ear mark for a skirt? And hopefully enough left for a bag.
The top left is part of a bed set I scored at the car boot as well, the pillowcases are already earmarked for my next Ginger incarnation. I finally added some Beatrix Potter to my stash too and the bottom… were gifted to me some lovely scrap pieces and Free Spirit FQS. Aren’t they lovely?
Next week I’m hosting Sunday Stash with a fun giveaway too! So check on back 🙂
Hope everyone is having a fab weekend. Linking up with Molli Sparkles.

… Or my attempt at trying to motivate myself to finish things completely!
I’m ashamed to admit that I actually start this a little over a year ago… I really am struggling with the fabric (a Cabbages and Roses Jelly Roll given when subscribed to Popular Patchwork). Wanting to get this finished soon to give as a present!
Some of my vintage stash.. and look there’s actually quarter square triangles there already! Aiming to make with this lot a patchwork cushion, baby quilt and some odds and ends.
Something bit more for me… am really getting into crochet (when I’m not sewing) so I need a case to hold all me crochet hooks don’t I?!
Some other EPP bits that lying around… these are table centrepieces in theory. The bright bake sale one is for me 🙂
Now this is a prototype of something that I really need to get finished!
Something else for me that I’ve sorely neglected due to not having enough fabric. An epp tablecloth I found something similar so hopefully now back on track!
Are you joining in?

Lately my fabric drooling habits has slowly been shifting as I find a bit more “me” in my choices and what I choose to create. When I starting collecting fabric I did not have a clue so ended up in the beginning with a lot of cutesy one off novelty prints and polycottons. A lot of which I’ve slowly been shifting but if anyone wants any of those…. 😉
Using and collecting 30s repros fabrics I inevitably made the jump into vintage and aren’t these gorgeous new additions to my stash?
I seriously love the blue and red sheets, it might be one of those I keep to stroke forever…. or I might wait until the perfect quilt to back it with 🙂
More of my fave bits here! And if you fancy scoring some of these take a look at Sew And Quilt and Mary Emmens’ shop for more vintagey goodness.
I also have these…. clothes. One of which mine the others acquired at a car boot. All freshly washed ready to be turned into something… I’m sure it will come to me eventually!

So.. it seems lately not a week goes by without adding something to my fabric stash. I kid you not it is more like the leaning tower.
This turned up in the post today.
Pretty… Pretty… drool worthy fabric and bias binding! The stretchy ribbon was a free gift isn’t it lovely?
This is where your chance to win comes in….. what should I do with it? It’s a little bit more brown than the photo suggests.
Come up with an idea and I will choose the best one! Not only will I create the item and name it after you… but you will receive a free owl mini cushion/beanie and… a discount code of 25% for anything from my shop.
Now who’s going to try?!
